Why You Need Steritrak

As of 1st April 2011, all practices within England must comply with outcomes set by the Care Quality Commission.

Outcome 8 concerns the cleaning and sterilisation of your instruments, including requiring an audit trail for the instrument sterilisation process and linking each tray to the patient who used it, as described in the Health and Social Care Act 2008.

These new requirements mean the amount of time you spend logging information about cleaning and sterilisation will substantially increase. Along with more paperwork books, your nurses must also spend time recording the success or failure of cycles along with the cycle parameters.

Audit trials must be done manually through the paperwork books and notes must be made in a patient’s clinical notes regarding which tray was used on the patient.

Along with CQC compliance, the Health and Technical Memorandum 01-05 also specifies minimum requirements, as well as best practice guidelines for cleaning and sterilising instruments.

Again, in order to achieve these best practice guidelines, cycle parameters must be recorded along with the success or failure of the sterilisation process.

To help you comply with these requirements, Steritrak has been designed to integrate seamlessly with your current work practices, helping you track instrument trays throughout the cleaning and sterilisation process.

Product Offering

Steritrak is an exciting new product that helps you track instrument trays throughout the cleaning and sterilisation process—not only ensuring compliance with Outcome 8, but also enhancing best practices as recommended in the Health and Technical Memorandum 01-05.

Steritrak allows you to mirror processes within your practice, whether they are centralised sterilisations or individual surgery sterilisations. Using existing PCs or touch-screen monitors, trays can be moved through the sterilisation process, noting where necessary information about cycle parameters and success or failure of a cycle.

Steritrak features a fresh and contemporary design that blends with any technology. The software is ready to use straight out of the box, requiring minimal setup or training and making it easy for anyone to use. Steritrak provides immediate access to reports detailing the cleaning and sterilisation history of each instrument tray, as well as the tray history for each machine in the practice.

In addition to integrating with Steritrak, R4 software offers a variety of features to help you complete the traceability picture. You can record which instrument trays have been used for each patient’s appointment, even if multiple trays are used. R4’s standard reports also show which patients have used a particular tray within a specified time period, as well as the tray history for a specific patient.

Steritrak is just one more solution Carestream Dental offers to help you streamline your workflow and run a more efficient practice. Steritrak will eliminate the need for multiple paper logbooks and ensure your information remains updated and secure.

3. When does CQC go into effect?

All practices in England must comply with the CQC outcomes beginning 1st April 2011.

4. What reports will Steritrak provide?
