Why You Need Steritrak
As of 1st April 2011, all practices within England must comply with outcomes set by the Care Quality Commission.
Outcome 8 concerns the cleaning and sterilisation of your instruments, including requiring an audit trail for the instrument sterilisation process and linking each tray to the patient who used it, as described in the Health and Social Care Act 2008.
These new requirements mean the amount of time you spend logging information about cleaning and sterilisation will substantially increase. Along with more paperwork books, your nurses must also spend time recording the success or failure of cycles along with the cycle parameters.
Audit trials must be done manually through the paperwork books and notes must be made in a patient’s clinical notes regarding which tray was used on the patient.
Along with CQC compliance, the Health and Technical Memorandum 01-05 also specifies minimum requirements, as well as best practice guidelines for cleaning and sterilising instruments.
Again, in order to achieve these best practice guidelines, cycle parameters must be recorded along with the success or failure of the sterilisation process.
To help you comply with these requirements, Steritrak has been designed to integrate seamlessly with your current work practices, helping you track instrument trays throughout the cleaning and sterilisation process.
